Two new bands from that cold land up north.
Not Canada, but Sweden and Finland.
Cats on Fire are from Finland and have a brand new ep called Draw in the Reins. They’re quite good in an Orange Juice and Smiths kind of way. Actually they remind me a bit of Popundret, but who remembers that band? You can check out a bunch of their songs at the songs page of their web site. Higher Grounds is one of my favorite songs of theirs and is on the new ep. My Friend in a Comfortable Chair is also good but not on the ep.
The other band you should know about is called the Mary Onettes. They just signed to Labrador and will be releasing an ep on Noverber 1. You can check out the title track here, and discover they are bit parts of the Icicle Works and the Railway Children.
